Not Just Acupuncture: What to Expect at the SWAC Santa Fe Wellness Fair

By Eric Michaelsen

On Wednesday, July 13, from 2 to 4 pm, Southwest Acupuncture College in Santa Fe is hosting a Wellness Fair. The fair will showcase many different applications of Chinese Medicine, not just acupuncture! Whether you have health concerns, have always been curious about acupuncture, or simply want to know what Chinese Medicine is all about, the Wellness Fair is for you. On hand, senior students from SWAC, under the guidance of experienced Doctors of Oriental Medicine, will be offering a variety of modalities to attendees.

Chinese Medicine has been evolving since the Huang Di Nei Jing (The Yellow Emperor’s Internal Classic) was written before the year 200 BCE. It is based on living in harmony with nature and the idea that external and internal phenomena model and influence one another. In practical application, that means balancing the body’s energies and learning to live a harmonious, seasonal lifestyle. At the SWAC Wellness Fair, participants are invited to experience what that means for them.

Modalities include:
• Acupuncture: Balancing energetic and nervous pathways in the body for relief of symptoms and a feeling of wellness.
• Tui-na: Chinese bodywork that harmonizes the system in order to boost immunity and vitality and provide relief.
• Five Element Body Typing: Learn about your constitution and what you can do to feel like your best self.
• Chinese Nutritional Assessment: Find out how you can eat best for your constitution! This is not a diet, but information about what foods can make you energized and happy.

Attendees are welcomed to schedule appointments for each modality to experience the full range of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Wellness Fair is free and will be scheduled on a first-booked, first-served basis. SWAC is located at 1622 Galisteo Street in Santa Fe. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the SWAC clinic at (505) 438-8880.
