Study Abroad
The China Program
Advanced clinical training programs in acupuncture, herbal medicine, qi gong and tui na are held annually in the summer in Beijing, China at the International Training Center of the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These externships are not only highly acclaimed but represent the highest level of clinical and herbal training abroad for American practitioners. The China externship program has operated since 1988.
Our programs are designed by Southwest Acupuncture College’s China Program Director and implemented by the faculty and staff of the Academy of TCM, Beijing. The program is supervised, on-site, by one of Southwest Acupuncture College’s faculty members to ensure that it meets our standards for advanced training. The Academy is an umbrella organization of hospitals, colleges and institutes located in Beijing. The Academy sponsors the International Acupuncture Training Center, headquartered at Dongzhimen Medical Complex in northeastern Beijing. The International Acupuncture Training Center has almost thirty years of experience training foreigners in Chinese medicine through their own programs. They are known throughout the world for excellent programs with superb interpreters and access to large patient loads in their clinics.
Our programs are the only advanced clinical programs the International Acupuncture Training Center provides. Southwest Acupuncture college offers the following China programs:
- Advanced Clinical Training Program in Acupuncture
- Advanced Clinical Training in Herbal Medicine
- Advanced Clinical Training in Tui Na
- Advanced Clinical Training in Medical Qi Gong
Each of the programs lasts approximately four weeks providing 105 hours of clinical training. The program includes field trips to such places as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Ming Tombs, the Summer Palace and the Llama Temple.Students may elect to complete two of their clinics (105 hours) in China in place of two clinics at the college. The cost of travel, room and board is extra but the tuition is the same. Financial Aid is available for the China study to students enrolled in the Master’s program at Southwest Acupuncture College. A diploma is granted from China for the externship program.
Our seminars and China studies satisfy NCCAOM re-certification requirements as well as continuing education requirements for most states.
